I recently wrote about a Cebu City boxing program, founded by a businessman who aims to keep at-risk youth off the streets and bring hope to those who need it most. When I shared the story on Mango Mornings, I saw that its message impacted others, too. That alone was enough fulfillment.
And then I get the email: “Congrats, you’ve been Freshly Pressed!”
It’s been up on the WordPress homepage for a couple of days and I’m overjoyed that the boxing program is getting even more attention. And let’s be honest, it’s pretty great getting attention as a writer, too – especially in today’s digital landscape of celebrity tweets, instagrammed desserts, and seemingly-pointless-but-oh-so-irresistable cat videos.
And so, I give a mighty thanks to the WordPress editors for bringing light to this story. And thank you to my followers, old and new, for hopping on board.
Of course we all owe thanks to people like the Cebu City businessman. To the school teacher and fire fighter. To the little league coach and animal shelter volunteer. To those in the community, quietly doing their work to make this world a better place.
